A prickly pear cactus, still bearing fruit, droops over a retaining wall in the yard of a house in the 5000 block of Osage Ave. This particular specimen perks up nicely in the warmer months. Though the prickly pear grows most abundantly in the West and Southwest, it is apparently also the only cactus known to occur naturally in the Northeast.
