Gospel Fest 2007
It’s an unexpectedly cool day today, so you might as well spend it outside. And you’ll have ample opportunity to do so. The Clark Park People’s Flea Market is almost underway at Clark Park (it starts at 9am), but it shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to exhaust that activity. When you’ve sold off the last of your Garbage Pail Kids or finally found that must-have Beanie Baby, you’re going to want to make your way out to Malcolm X Park for the 6th annual Gospel Fest! From noon to 4pm today, about a dozen gospel groups will showcase the miracle of close harmony for the faithful and simple music-lovers alike. Make an afternoon of it, and pick up a little lunch on the way. It would be a great opportunity to get a taste of those Caribbean doubles you’ve been hearing so much about. And you can abate their spice with a tasty treat from the new water ice place at 52nd and Addison across the street from Malcolm X Park.
She won’t be there, obviously, but here’s a little Sister Rosetta Tharpe to wet/whet your whistle:
