Jeremy Gilley is founder of Peace One Day and the man who started a movement to establish International Peace Day on a fixed calendar date. I’m a big fan of this guy because 1) he knows it’ll be a long, long time before the U.N. and its member states start fulfilling its mandate of world peace and 2) he’s unfazed by this fact.

We essentially have him to thank for having a day of peace that is observed all over the world. (Announcement: our own prayer vigil will take place this Sunday, at 4 pm. We’re co-cordinating with West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship and Calvary United Methodist Church. We will begin at 48th and Baltimore and continue praying as we walk 10 blocks to Malcolm X Park, 51st & Pine, near Shalom House, and conclude the vigil there.)

Read this NPR story to hear more what Gilley’s trying to do with the Peace One Day campaign amidst the Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan. He’s brought Jude Law along on the trip because, hey, world peace needs a Hollywood face just as much as any other cause. (No disrespect to Jude Law. He’s a great actor.)
