West Philadelphia restaurants go up the tubes…
And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It’s not a truck. It’s a series of tubes.
–Alaska Senator Ted Stevens
Anyone who lives in West Philadelphia can attest to the irritating accumulation of restaurant menus that invariably can be found stuffed in mailboxes, tucked under doormats and windshield wipers, rolled up inside door handles, and shimmied into every imaginable crevice of the front door. Sometimes they’re simply scattered across a porch or yard. So exasperating are they that I find myself transferring them immediately to recycling bin or trash can with barely a second look. But, then, there I am, starving some evening and casting about for a pizza menu, and I’ve got nothing to show for it. What’s more, many of my favorite West Philly establishments have no web presence at all. That’s about to change with the launch of the www.malcolmxpark.org Menu Clearinghouse! This week, I’ll be adding the following places:
Bottom of the Sea 327 S. 52nd St.
Mr. Hook 206-208 S. 52nd St.
Mr. Wings 927 E. Baltimore Ave. in Lansdowne
Southside Pizza 52nd and Pine
Tropical Pride 5400 Pine
Pete’s Eats 35 S. 52nd St.
Some of these menus are available through Philadelphia Menu Pages but most are not. If there’s anything you’d like to see added, or if a menu here needs updating, please let me know in the comments section. At the moment, I’m simply scanning these menus and stitching them together. Any advice on a more user- and author-friendly format would be great!

hey just to give you a head’s up, I know it’s not right in the neighborhood but Allegro’s at 40tha nd Spruce does deliver all the way to my house near 53rd and Baltimore. they have a pretty extensive menu and their antipasto salad is enough food for me for about 3 days! incidentally, i think that their delivery is actually better than eating there – and it’s faster!

Thanks! I’ve eaten many a meal at Allegro’s. I’m sort of looking more for places that aren’t as web-savvy. Places that don’t have a website, for instance, and whose menus haven’t made it to menupages.com. Up your way I’ve heard there’s some kind of Carolina barbecue joint. I think it must be a bit farther out along Baltimore than 53rd, possibly 57th. Ring any bells?
