Please join us in Malcolm X Park for the 2009 MLK Day of Service! We’ll gather in the park at about 9am and work till noon picking up trash, making a couple of repairs and maybe even tackling the out-of-control compost pile if we get enough people. Please let me know if you’ll be joining us so we can plan for refreshments. Or, if you’re on Facebook, you can join the Facebook Friends of Malcolm X Park and rsvp there.
A film written, produced and directed by Ngozi Thomas and partially shot in Malcolm X Park!
The back-story is explained here, but basically, as a teenager, the character on the left faked his way into a sperm bank as a way to earn enough money to patent an action figure he had developed. Years later, he meets a child he’s sure is his and hires the character on the left right to find out for sure.
Child Support: The Movie is about choices, consequences, and how the insignificant actions of your past can significantly determine the outcome of your future.

If you’ve been through Malcolm X Park recently, you’ll surely have noticed that one of the benches has been converted to a sizable…bunker? The man who’s been sleeping there–with his adopted kitten “Hotep”–introduced himself to me as The Reverend Doctor Professor Solid Gold. (It’s unbelievably cute: he calls the kitten and it comes running, climbs up his pantleg and nuzzles inside his jacket.) He assured me that, despite the weather, he was happy where he was. Anyway, he hasn’t been seen since at least Christmas. If you’ve seen him more recently, drop a line in the comments.
Update 2: Okay, the camera’s running most of the time now. If anyone wants to kick a few bucks my way, I’ll consider upgrading to something remotely operable with night vision, just for fun.
Update: This webcam’s not so good at night, and I’m not sure Justin.tv is the right way to run the live cam since it requires an open browser window. Closing it down for now. When open, it’ll be available in the right hand column under Live Web Cam.

Experimenting with a live video feed of Malcolm X Park with a webcam using Justin.tv
What do you think? Anyone have a better webcam they’re not using? Is this just a lame idea?
