As a special bonus, Kizzy Raw is also, according to this video, the “only girl in Philly ridin’ dirt bikes.” Dispute that claim if you like, but enjoy:
Accidentally let another Saturday get by without posting a spitter. So here’s the new video from West Philly’s own Freck the Billionaire:
It strains credulity that Freck is driving a 2009 Lamborghini under any circumstances, but given the financial news these days, how long before we start to see deflation in car aspirations? Will we see a retreat to the vintage classics?
We missed this week’s usual Saturday Spitters on Saturday, so here’s a makeup. The video and track, “My Hood” (Southwest Philadelphia), is by Jay Supreme off the Supremacy The Mixtape Pt. 3. Nice to see some care taken in assembling this video which cuts from guys hanging on a porch to assorted street scenes from the Woodland Ave. and the adjacent neighborhood.
Jay Supreme is part of a group called the Gettin Money Hustlers or GMH, three Liberian rappers including M. Murda and Donny Boy. Catch them on Myspace here.
Saturday Spitters is a semi-regular series featuring artists from West Philadelphia’s growing hip hop scene. YouTube videos, MySpace pages, websites, etc. Know someone who should be featured as a Saturday Spitter? Send me a note!
I could not be more impressed with Playworld Systems, the playground equipment company based here in Pennsylvania. If you’ve been a long-time reader of Malcolmxpark.org, you may have seen references to Talking Bob here and there. Talking Bob is a piece of interactive playground equipment that allows its user to make a brief recording of his or her voice, a playfully distorted version of which is played back a few seconds after the recording. For years, Malcolm X Park’s Talking Bob was out of commission, but a post about him in November last year caught the attention of a Playworld Systems employee who got the ball rolling on Bob’s replacement. Here’s what he used to look like:
Here’s what it looked like while he was away:
And here he is refreshed with a new head and new brains, as of yesterday:
I got a message from the technician at Playworld Systems last night who noted that this version of Talking Bob is out of production, so he put out a call to his network of installers looking for parts. Over the last few months, he painstakingly assembled a complete Talking Bob, just for us right here in Malcolm X Park! I tested Bob this morning, and he’s in fine shape and ready to talk. I’ll try to put together a little video of how it works soon. (And a hint to our Saturday Spitters: If you’re looking for a novel source for audio samples…)
